Week 7 here in Banff and Monday afternoon meant back to lessons preparing for the group’s next Level 2 exams! The ski groups this week have been focusing on ‘What makes a good skier’, going into detail looking at their techniques and learning all the technical referencing ready for their level 2. They have been critiquing each other’s short turns, carving and moguls to get their riding standards up to scratch.
Wednesday was time for the snowboarders to hit up the park, each of the riders made progression focusing on their individual goals and were smashing it!! Wednesday evening was time for Harry Potter Trivia night at the Storm cellar, where Montana, Rachael and Hugh showed their Potter knowledge taking home the win!!
Thursday, John’s snowboard group did the dreaded hike up south- side chutes, which was worth it once reaching the top to drop into some fresh snow! Will, Hugh, Marcus and Luke were all part of the group slashing the snow up on South Side.
On Friday Jesse’s, all-girl, snowboard group (Lucie, Rachael, Leonie and Nicole) were all working on their carving for the week leading up to the top progression of carving, the very difficult, euro carve! All the girls were dominating the euro carve and said it was their best week of lessons yet, having really noticed a big progression in their riding!
In the evening, Cedric, Hugh and Will went to Norquay night skiing and competed in the rail jam event there, none of them placed but said they had an awesome evening learning new tricks in the park and enjoyed watching the ridiculously high standard of riding!
The weekend rolled around and on Saturday a lot of the group went up the mountain free-riding, it was snowing all day but this didn't stop Charlie, Laurin and Louis getting their avalanche gear on and heading to the famous, Delirium Dive. This is an advanced off-piece part of the mountain, where avalanche gear in compulsory as the steep terrain is matched with deep fresh snow! After the boys came back on Saturday on such a high, Harry and Alex had to do Delirium dive on Sunday, they came back with the same reviews, saying how much they loved it and got to make fresh tracks each time they dropped in!
To top off the week, SnowSkool rep, Lana took Nicole and Leonie on a girl’s riding day, playing tour guide as she took the girls through all the good tree runs and completing the day going through middle and lower canyons where the views are beautiful all around with some steep and tricky terrain. Sunday night approached, and it was time for the usual Sunday Funday bar crawl, celebrating a good week of riding and progression had by everyone!
Until next week!
