Banff 2019 is a go! After a small delay in the airport and meeting each other in Wetherspoons the SnowSkoolers were anxious to get out of Gatwick and get to Canada! Fortunately, the Calgary side was a lot more smooth than the London side and the group were soon on their way to Banff!
On arriving to HI Hostel and finding their rooms the students all headed to the bar onsite (The Storm Cellar) for so much needed food, drinks and socialising.
It was a slightly later start for their second day, which was their introduction day. The SnowSkoolers all gathered and were introduced to all the staff at the hostel, meeting the people who would be looking after them during their stay.
At around midday we all split into smaller groups and Adam, Hugh and Chris gave them a tour of Banff town which ended in Ultimate, where the skiers then split from the snowboarders to pick up any gear and meet the shop guys that would be looking after them for the season. This is where many of them brought all the equipment that they needed for the season ahead.
After dinner on Tuesday evening the snowboarders headed back down town to Unltd, where they had their private, shop, evening. Here they met a couple of their instructors and could buy all the snowboards, bindings and boots they needed. A few skiers then joined later to pick up any last minute gear they needed for their first day on the slopes.
Wednesday was the day they had all been waiting for! The first day on the slopes!
The SnowSkoolers were picked up by their own private transport that took them straight to sunshine. Once they were there everyone headed to get their lift passes, get their photos taken and head up on the gondola. Once at the top, they put their bags down in a rush and headed straight out for a ride before their lessons started in the afternoon.
In the afternoon the instructors were there in force. The skiers were split into groups at random and the snowboarders decided to go for a big group ride together. It wasn’t long until the instructors started to break the bad habits in their riding.
The following day was their first full day in lessons, Hugh, Chris and Adam were riding around the resort filming the students in their lessons. It’ll be great to see the difference between week 1 and week 13!
After a tiring day of lessons some of the students headed straight to bed but some headed back to the bar for the pool comp!
Friday was their last day of lessons for the week, all of the students put full effort into their riding they could see this by the way they were already progressing in their riding. Friday night was our tight and bright night down the bar the drinks were flowing, and the luminous paint was everywhere. A few SnowSkoolers even managed to pluck up the courage to belt a few songs!
The weekend arrived and most of the students decided it would be best to have a rest day. At least for Saturday. Adam and Hugh took a small group over to the Hoodoos (an odd rock formation down near Bow River), which shook off a few of those Friday night hangovers.
On Sunday, a group of students headed back out to the mountain for an amazing bluebird day!
Sunday night was the students first Sunday Funday! Starting at High Rollers then to Tommy’s and then finishing the night at Dancing Sasquatch. A perfect official introduction to Banff’s nightlife!
