It's been an incredible start to the SnowSkool Big White 2017 course this year, with bluebird days galore last week - followed by the first powder days for the group in the last few days.
The SnowSkoolers arrived into resort on Wednesday and were welcomed with a few choice social events over the next few evenings to help them to get to know each other, including a nachos and beer night, the first Sunday Doubles and a meet and greet with a few of their CASI and CSIA level 3 and 4 trainers. We even had our first birthday, with Ben turning 19 (the legal drinking age in B.C.) Happy Birthday Ben - don’t go too hard on the heavy stuff!
One of the social highlights was undoubtedly the private opening of the Happy Valley Tube Park, where a record-breaking 20 of the group managed to go down the slope together. They were then treated to some traditional North American marshmallow toasting, and hot chocolate, before hitting the hay after a tiring first full day of lessons.
With the jetlag finally put to bed, the group have been hard at work completing their first full week of training with some of British Colombia's finest instructors. Rider improvement has been a focus this week, with many of the students having some video analysis done to see where their skiing and snowboarding can be bettered.
The group have also been introduced to the course guidelines and the standards that they will need to meet in order to succeed in their exams. Feedback from all the trainers has been great so far, so it looks like we are on track for a successful year!
With the snow still falling, the Avalanche Course coming up, and Australia Day just around the corner, we've got a great week ahead of us. Let's just hope the SnowSkoolers can shred the gnar with a hangover...
Onwards and upwards. Until next week!
