The bluebird days have continued over the past week here at beautiful Big White. So Snowskoolers have had the perfect backdrop in their last week of training before level one exams.
The students have spent a lot of time down in Happy Valley on the magic carpet beginner slope, perfecting their teaching techniques and low level skiing and snowboarding demonstrations. Rider improvement has also been a focus, to ensure that they are all at the required standard to pass their exam next week.
But it’s not only about the instructor training: a group of the SnowSkool guys and girls also undertook an avalanche training course this week - heading out into the backcountry to learn about snow safety and rescue techniques. It's a tiring 3 days but a lot of fun and definitely worthwhile from a safety point of view. Getting the avalanche safety can be a big plus when applying for jobs after the course too.
Wednesday saw the vast majority of the Big White crew travel down to Kelowna to see the local Hockey team (the Rockets) play against rivals the Calgary Hitmen. After a comprehensive win of 8-2 to the Rockets, it was a thoroughly enjoyable and successful night with a lot of very happy locals in the crowd and a great first ice hockey experience for SnowSkool. Go Rockets!
Next week is going to be a tough one as the group head into their level one exams. Good luck gang! You've been doing great so far and we know you'll smash it. We can't wait to celebrate with you all on Friday.
We’ll be back in touch soon to tell you how the Level 1 Exams went.
