After a hectic but completely awesome time in Queenstown last week, everyone was feeling slightly shattered for the start of level 2 training.
Those of the crew that did make it up the hill on Monday soon began to notice a marked difference between level 1 and 2 of training - this really us time for the students to up their game. The focus is now changing to what each group really needs; lots of lap coaching and paying attention to their own skiing/riding.
Skier and rider analysis sessions have also been attended by the SnowSkoolers, which is a major part of the level 2 exam. Everyone must begin analysing the issues that some skiers/riders may have and work on coming up with ways to improve their movements to prevent these.
All in all though, the guys and girls are enjoying the speed upgrade and greatly enhanced technical requirements and after the first couple of days they really started to get a grasp of what is now required of them off the hill too, with fitness and health firmly on the agenda in preparation for tougher training ahead.
The result of all this super, hard work? Well, Wanaka's nightlife may be missing us - it's been a week of quiet evenings and sleep.
But the pow days have been incredible! We've had some awesome conditions, with no less than five bluebird days in a row! The groomers have been working there magic yet again.
This weekend was a special occasion for Cardrona as we had the local Jossi Wells run an invite only Monster Air Freestyle event for the worlds best riders.
We were lucky enough to witness Nico Porteous - the youngest ever freeskier - throw down his first 'Triple Cork 1440' at the age of just 14!
Off the hill this weekend has been quite relaxed, with some just going to play disc golf or for a walk down by the lake. A few of the SnowSkooler's took the chance on Saturday to go and put what they have learned in to practice by teaching their friends the opposite sport to the one they know best, ie the skiers teaching the snowboarders to ski and vice versa. We wonder if anyone converted? Time can only tell.
Next week will see a host of special birthdays, so loads of pictures to come for that!
Until next time...
