Level 1…… Still going to send it!

The past 3 weeks of training and hard graft have all led up to this week. Monday morning rolled around and at 9 o’clock the Level 1 exams kicked off. Nerves were quickly calmed and the SnowSkoolers were happy to see some familiar faces this week as their examiners introduced themselves and made the groups. As well as the familiar examiners, we also had some new faces: alongside Ali and Bob we had Martin for the skiers. And on the snowboard side we had Mark joining our regular instructors.

In classic New Zealand style, whenever an exam is about to take place, it is customary for the weather to turn. Monday morning was no exception. However, after a heavy snowfall through Monday night, Tuesday brought with it fresh lines and sunshine.

Time flies when you’re doing exams and Friday afternoon was quickly upon us. Tensions were running high with results on hand, but nerves were soon alleviated when the certificates were being handed out!

The skiers managed an amazing 100% pass rate this year, congratulations! The snowboarders were just as awesome with 16 full passes and 2 partial passes, great job! Luckily, confidence is still on high and the 2 partial passes are heading to Treble Cone, well known for its awesome terrain, to re-sit the other half of their exams. Good luck guys, we’re sure you’ll smash it!

No time was wasted when it came to celebrate! With the sun shining and certificates in hand the SnowSkoolers took some well-earned time to relax and celebrate. Jamie and Matty were among the group that began by taking advantage of the rewarding, on-tap beer Cardrona has to offer. I think Matty may have needed it a bit more after coming up a little short on the largest kicker at Cardrona. Luckily, he came away largely unscathed. Thank you, Ben P, for the excellent slow-mo evidence!

As you would expect on a Friday after a successful exam week, everyone had a few more reasons to enjoy this weekend. With everyone either passing their entire exam or a component of it, all the SnowSkoolers took to The Water Bar for an evening of quality music and a few drinks too. It was also Daz’s birthday on Saturday, so the SnowSkoolers decided to start the celebrations early!

Jayden, Josh and Matty went up the mountain for a ski/board Saturday to shake off the previous evening. Josh and Jayden even decided to brave the opposite discipline, it seemed to pay off as they both bought a pair of Skis the following day! Lucas, Charlie, Emma and Jess all decided that the sauna was a more suitable remedy for the night before.

Andrew, Yuval and Ben took the sauna mindset into Sunday before heading out to Redstar burger restaurant in Wanaka to top off their weekend.

Matty and Lucas have decided to give snowboarding a try this week after buying their own gear this weekend. Best of luck to all 4 of you!

That is it for Level 1 exam week, successful all in all! Bring on Level 2!
