Our final full week started quietly due to there being quite a few headaches lurking after a very eventful and celebratory Sunday Funday. A few guys went up the hill on Monday to practice for their impending park course but otherwise, it was a much needed rest day after a busy weekend. Tuesday saw skiers Max Muir, Henry Hebron and Tom Williams start their park course. Proceedings got underway with them switch skiing before they headed into the park to work on rail progression.
Wednesday had the snowboarders start their first day of the park course, working on their butters, presses and switch riding before getting stuck into the teaching aspects of park in the afternoon. On what was their second day, the skiers continued working on jumps, throwing down grabs and spins. Dermot Forsyth and George Ide headed up to Lake Louise with SnowSkool Adam to do their park course, enjoying what was an awesome change of scenery.
Thursday was the final day for both skiers and snowboarders. First up, skiers worked on how to teach park skills and then used the afternoon for technical improvement. The snowboarders worked on rail progression and teaching before spinning and getting grabs down on the kickers. Congratulations to all the guys who did their park course – everyone passed! Awesome job once again! In the evening the students hit the hot pools before a well-deserved night on the town.
Some of the guys headed back into the park on Friday to show off what they'd learnt on their park course. SnowSkool Cammy took the camera up and got a sweet little park video of the students throwing down!
The weekend blessed us with a HUGE dump of fresh powder! Sunday had 40cms of the soft stuff so all the guys got up the hill early and were blessed with the best day riding of the season … plenty of fresh tracks all around. In the evening we organised a meal for all the guys and girls, as well as some of their instructors, at the Elk and Oarsman in town before heading out on THE last Sunday Funday!
Most people fought through some the lethargy that accompanied Monday morning to get back up on the hill to enjoy the pow pow! Jack Skelton, Iona Mackay, Callan Boyle, Mitch Howe and Charles Kemp-Kennedy headed up to Lake Louise to take advantage of the powder they had there.
Last full SnowSkool day on Tuesday and most headed up to snatch one last day of riding! SnowSkool Cammy and SnowSkool Adam hosted farewell drinks and with a barbeque the Storm Cellar. In the fine tradition of the many who have gone before us, this was followed with a presentation of certificates which ranged from best skier / snowboarder to best karaoke performance. Great night had by all!
What a terrific season we have had in Canada’s glorious Rocky Mountains! Come Wednesday afternoon when the bus pulled away from the HI, there were widespread tears as many new friends parted company. A few have stayed on to enjoy the spring but soon enough, everyone will either be on their way home or onto life’s next adventure. Thanks to you guys back home for your interest and support – we hope the weekly newsletters have helped you share our experience. Thanks to the SnowSkool team back in England, Scotland and Australia for all your organisational support in making it all happen for us. Thanks to the wonderful team from Sunshine Village and HI here on the ground in Canada for your ginormous efforts on our behalf and your spectacular hospitality. And thank you to the Snowkoolers of Banff 2015 for making it the best season ever!!!! Good wishes all round for whichever path you follow and hope to see you slopeside somewhere sometime soon.
Goodbye, dear friends!
