Training and paid-for work in an Austrian Ski School

If you want to get your ski instructor qualifications whilst working an Austrian Ski School, then SnowSkool Zell am See is the course for you! You will work hard on the slopes with your trainer and then apply your new skills in training paying customers to ski…and get paid for it! 

And with the new cable link to Saalbach-Hinterglemm, Zell am See is an exciting place to be. The new ski area will be Austria's biggest and offer some incredible terrain, as well as access to the Kaprun Glacier which guarantees snow from November until May. You will be trained by and work for the excellent Zell am See Skischule and your lodgings will come from their pool of staff accommodation.

Slopes

By itself, Zell am See is not a huge ski area but, for 2016/ 17 season, the new cable link was completed to link Zell/ Kaprun up to the Skicircus resorts of Saalbach, Hinterglemm and Fieberbrunn. With 380km of pistes, this will be the largest ski area in Austria. The glacier at Kaprun also ensures a very long season of skiing. In Zell, the terrain is broken down equally between beginner/ intermediate/ expert terrain and there is a half-pipe on Schmittenhohe and a terrain park by the Hochmaisbahn. 

Accommodation

Accommodation for those on the SnowSkool course in Zell am See will be provided in conjunction with the Skischule Zell am See. We are a little light on details at the moment but accommodation is expected to be apartment-style and will be located in or close to the centre of Zell am See. Details will be posted as soon as we have them...in the meantime, you can enjoy some pictures of Zell am See and dream that you may be living in Kaprun Castle!

Tuition

The training element will take place over seven weeks of your seventeen week ski instructor internship in Zell am See. For your development, we work with the most experienced instructors from the Ski Schule Zell am See includung a BASI ISTD instructor (this is the highest level available in the BASI system). With four offices in Zell am See, this is the go-to ski school with the biggest customer base in the area. 

Ski Instructor Work

As well as taking responsibility for your on-snow development, Ski Schule Zell am See will also be your employer for the season. SnowSkool students will be scheduled in to work over the Xmas and New Year period and through February. In Austria, ski instructor wages are guaranteed based on a pre-determined amount of hours so helping with your seasonal budgeting. 

Qualifications

On the Zell am See internship, you will go for the Alpine (Ski) qualifications of BASI (British Association of Snowsport Instructors). Subject to the appropriate amount of work and dedication, as well as logging the required amount of Ski School experience (35 hours for Level 1 and 35 hours for Level 2), you should aim to leave the seventeen-week SnowSkool course as a BASI Level 2 ski instructor!
