Mt Norquay Ski Instructor Internship

Qualify; Work; Nail your Skiing

Finally, a course that offers it all ... the SnowSkool programme at Mt. Norquay gives you the opportunity to (1) Qualify as a Level 1 ski instructor; (2) Work as a ski instructor at Mt Norquay *; (3) Join the PSIC Big Mountain Pathway training programme - designed to advance your skiing in double black terrain; (4) Live in Banff ... Canada's iconic ski town

What more are you looking for from your ski season in Canada?

Kicking off in January, you'll be straight into 15 days of high-end ski tuition to ensure that you nail your PSIC Level 1 qualification in time to take on ski instructor work opportunities at Mt Norquay through February and March. Alongside your work opportunities, you'll continue with your ski training ... 3 days per week you'll be working towards the PSIC Big Mountain qualification. It's designed to improve your skiing in double black terrain (and it's a great way to shake out the legs after instructor days on the bunny slopes!).

* Work as a ski instructor is conditional on having a Canadian passport or Canadian working holiday visa.

Slopes

We'll be honest ... Mt Norquay is not Canada's biggest resort, but what it lacks in size it more than makes up for with perfect terrain for our hybrid ski instructor internship. Being only minutes from the town of Banff (and with great beginner areas), the ski school is jam-packed with kids looking for lessons - which means plenty of work for newly qualified ski instructors. And on the flip-side, with nearly 50% of the ski area classified as expert terrain (including some of the steepest lift access terrain in North America), you're absolutely certain to take you're skiing to a new level under the expert guidance of your Big Mountain Pathway trainer.

Oh! And if that's not enough (and you still have the energy), trying a few tricks in the terrain park (especially after night falls) only adds to the magic of Mt. Norquay.

Accommodation & Meals

SnowSkool students and interns have been staying in The Banff Alpine Centre since 2004. It's not the most luxurious accommodation in Banff but it is, hands down, the best place to stay for an extended period of time. It's not a hotel full of middle-aged, stuffy travellers ... it's young, it's vibrant, it's friendly and it'll become your home-away-from-home in Canada!

  • Free Wifi
  • Fully equipped kitchens
  • Large communal areas
  • On-site pub!
  • Free table football, darts & pool
  • Cougar Pete’s - restaurant in the Lodge!

You'll be sharing a room with 3 others
We have rooms with en-suite facilities and these are available with a small upgrade supplement
5-days per week, you'll be given breakfast and an evening meal in the Lodge alongside other SnowSkoolers

Tuition

Teaching on the SnowSkool Mt Norquay internship is led by Gord Fielding (Ski School Director) and his close-knit team of highly experienced trainers, many of whom have worked for years at Mt Norquay. You'll hit the ground running in January with 3 weeks of training (5 days per week for 4.5 hours per day) to ensure that you're fully ready to nail your PSIC Level 1 qualification. This is your golden ticket to working as an instructor in the Mt Norquay ski school.

After completing your Level 1 and alongside your work in the ski school, you'll spend 3 days per week training on the PSIC Big Mountain Pathway. The time spent on this training pathway will ensure that your skiing improves beyond measure as you become an expert in the steep and deep double black diamond terrain that is so prevalent at Mt Norquay.

Qualifications

On the SnowSkool internship at Mt Norquay, you'll be going for the qualifications of the Professional Ski Instructors of Canada.

PSIC is a new, modern qualification body that's leading the way in instructor training. Its internationally recognised qualification works perfectly with the Professional Ski Instructors of Europe (PSIE), so you can easily build your career with either one. Whether you train with PSIC or PSIE, both will recognise each other’s qualifications without any hassle.
