Snowboard Instructor Training in Big White

Small community feel, big mountain experience

More snowboarders go to Big White than any other SnowSkool resort. And why?! The go-to answer is to drone on about the plentiful light & fluffy powder that falls in bucketloads across the 3000 acres of skiable terrain in Big White. Skiers can say what they want but riders know that shreddin’ pow on a board is, simply, better. Big White’s sick park is also a factor – freestyle is such an intrinsic part of our sport that the list of park features is as important a mountain stat as any other.

But for sure another reason is Big White’s attitude - a relaxed vibe that taps into the psyche of snowboarders. Biggie is a cool local’s hill that cares not for the commercialisation that has spoilt places like Whistle-bollocks. Ok so Biggie doesn’t have a zipwire, five nightclubs and a shopping centre but we also don’t have three-hour lift lines at the weekends, $2000 season passes and slopes full of punters. Come spend a few weeks riding with us over in Big White - if it your first time in Biggie, it won't be your last.

Slopes

The Big White piste map is pretty extensive with 3000 acres of in-bound terrain split into five powder bowls containing ~120 named runs but, for many, the piste map is just a starting point. The off-piste/ tree-riding possibilities at Big White open up a whole new dimension that few other resorts can match. Around 80% of the terrain is flanked by trees and, at any point, you can point your ride into the spruces to hit a different line every time. With regular dumps and quiet slopes, a powder stash is never far away. And the Park at Biggie is world-class with features that can be dialled-up to competition standard.

Big White Instructor Course 2017 - Week 10

It was the final week of SnowSkool Big White 2017. Once more, the assessors put them through their paces but this time with a freestyle focus, ensuring they were capable of both performing and teaching others how to hit the features in the park and spin in the air.

Tuition

Big White is our most tuition-intensive instructor course. Over the course of eleven blissful weeks, you’ll be instructed in the art of snowboarding perfection five days per week/ five hours per day. And, given that your trainers will be the most highly-experienced and well-qualified snowboard instructors in the Big White Ski & Board School, you should be half-decent by the end of the course!

Qualifications

Snowboard instructors in Canada are regulated by CASI (the Canadian Association of Snowboard Instructors). If you join the 11-week snowboard course, you’ll have the opportunity to sit the Level 1 and Level 2 snowboard instructor exams of CASI. As well as that, the CASI Snowpark certificate is available (within the 11 weeks) to those dope enough to teach freestyle snowboarding.

Your SnowSkool Rep

We’ve been running the SnowSkool Big White course since 2005 and so, today, it is a well-oiled machine. But we’ll never be complacent and we still leave no stone unturned in finding the best possible individuals to represent our company in-resort and to ensure that you complete the course having had the time of your life. Because then you’ll tell others!

SnowSkool reps are never too far away, they know the hill and her many secrets, they’re always up for going riding if you need a buddy or having a beer if you want a chat. They’re big brother/ sister and best mate and Mum all roled into one!
