Snowboard instructor qualifications in France

Situated in the heart of France’s Three Valleys, Méribel is SnowSkool’s base for its European snowboard instructor courses. Here you can undertake the snowboard qualifications governed by BASI (the British Association of Snowboard Instructors) up to and including the BASI level 2 snowboard instructor certificate, allowing successful graduates to teach snowboarding in resorts around the world. BASI is a particularly well-respected member of the ISIA (International Snowboard Instructors’ Alliance) for its requirements that snowboarders must complete work experience within a Snowboard School, even at the lower levels of qualification.

This is the entry level certification for snowboarders within the BASI system which is aligned to the Scottish Coaching & Qualifications Framework. During the 4-day course, you will be assessed on your technical riding and your teaching of snowboarding.

On the technical side you’ll need to be able to show your trainer that you can ride confidently on red runs with good speed and control and you’ll need to show that at a steady speed, you can link rhythmical small radius turns close to the fall line.  You’ll also need to demonstrate a good understanding of the Central Theme.

As a teacher, you’ll need to demonstrate and communicate the fundamentals of the Central Theme and be able to analyse students' snowboarding using the Central Theme. You’ll also need to demonstrate excellent communication skills and deliver feedback in a supportive and positive way.

To obtain your Level 1 certification to teach, you will also need to complete 35 hours snowsport school experience, a first aid qualification and an online child protection module.  This is all included in the SnowSkool package if you're with us for 11-weeks. With your Level 1, you’ll be able to work only on dry slopes or indoor snow slopes instructing novice and early intermediate snowboarders.
